How to do a mic test online

Three steps to test any microphone — headphones, webcam, laptop or phone. Everything happens in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Prefer to just start? Jump to the live mic tester.

  1. STEP 1

Turn the toggle on and allow access

The page tries to start your mic automatically using your saved browser permission. If it needs you, flip the toggle on, then click Allow in the browser prompt. The status pill switches to ● live and your device name appears. The toggle only shows ON when the mic is truly live — it never fakes it. Labels stay hidden until you allow; that's a browser privacy rule.

  2. STEP 2

    Speak and read the wave

Talk at normal distance and watch the waveform move. Aim for peaks around 40–75%.

    • Flat at 0% — wrong device, blocked permission, or mute.
    • Under 15% — too quiet; move closer or raise gain.
    • Near 100% — clipping; lower input to 50–75%.
  3. STEP 3

    Record and play back

Press Record, speak a few sentences, press Stop. Your clip appears with playback and download. If you sound clear here, you'll sound clear on Meet, Zoom, and Discord. Clips are session-only and vanish on reload.

SWITCHING DEVICES

Use the Choose microphone dropdown to move between built-in, USB, Bluetooth, and webcam mics. Switching restarts capture instantly — the active name and sample rate update above the dropdown.
